The idea was simple—adorn yourself with flowers or plants found in nature and treasure their beauty in a flower vase brooch.
At the start of the pandemic, I wanted to create something meaningful for those stuck at home. I decided to make a tutorial video on “How to Make a Brooch” using everyday materials. My son, bored from homeschooling, contributed illustrations, and my friend, artist Mizuki Kin, helped bring the video to life. With no detailed plan, we shot the film improvisationally in Brandenburg, trusting the creative process.
Musician Henning Schmiedt composed an original song, "Selbst," which deepened the film’s atmosphere. Sound artist Satoshi Satoshi later added the final touches. What began as a simple tutorial evolved into a blend of art, music, and storytelling—offering multiple ways to engage with it.
The pandemic forced me to pause and reflect. With time to explore new projects, I realized the value of nurturing creativity and reconnecting with nature. Living in Germany for over 20 years, I’ve learned that refining our senses enriches our lives. This film is not just about making accessories—it’s about appreciating beauty, slowing down, and seeing the world differently.
